Why was it called this?

placeholder gif[Spanish Barn - Torquay]

This is the mediaeval tithe barn of Torre Abbey. Its size expresses the great wealth of this monastery. It is called the Spanish barn after its use as a prison for Armada sailors from a ship wrecked nearby.
