Sir Mortimer Singer owned a famous J class yacht called "Astra" named after his Torquay home.

Purchased in 1927 it was raced until the end of the 23 metre "Big" class of yachts. One of the most admired and successful yachts on the regatta scene. P was always trying to beat Sir Thomas Lipton's "Shamrock " but never succeeded.
