KENTS CAVERN SCHOOLS INFORMATION PACK.
NOTES FOR TEACHERS.
This Schools Information Pack has been developed to assist you in gaining the maximum benefit from your visit to Kents Cavern, the oldest human settlement in Britain.
The following passages depicting brief events in the history of Kents Cavern were specially written to include as many examples of the use of the five senses as possible. They were designed to be used in one of several different ways:
- read aloud to younger children who can then be encouraged to identify the sense(s) being used and the vocabulary generated from that usage.
- read individually by older children, followed by further individual work or group discussion on the various senses and the data gained from their use.
- as an introduction to the long and varied history of the caves.
- in conjunction with the pictures, which may be used as a colouring exercise for younger children, as starting points for further work on the senses.
If appropriate a sixth "sense" may be introduced via these stories, the feeling of fear or unease, of happiness or safety; the mysterious, imaginary feelings arrived at after the interpretation of a scene by the five recognised senses.
The copyright of materials contained in the Schools Information Pack is held by Kents Cavern Limited. However, as a booked school party, you are entitled to reproduce any, or all, of these material for the preparation of, or further study after, your visit.
We trust that your experience at Kents Cavern will be a successful one, and that this pack will help to broaden your appreciation and understanding of the mysteries of the caves and their past.
