John Lee in Newcastle

John and Jessie Lee moved to Newcastle where their son John Aubrey Maurice was born on 10 January 1910. On the wedding certificate, the groom stated his occupation as 'proprietor of general stores' but his son's birth certificate showed that Lee was working as a 'barman'. He was in fact, being very well paid to make personal appearances in a public house where people flocked to meet and shake hands with 'The Man They Could Not Hang'.
